Nameless

The nameless brought darkness, real darkness, which could get into your lungs, enter your eyes, seep into your pores; whispered into our ears night upon night. Light could drive it off, for a time, music too, but, without rest, music is noise; you cast a shadow no matter how close you get to the fire.

The wizard saved us and doomed us: he invited the nameless into the castle. We bared the doors, but the darkness remains, hidden in all of us, living in our dreams.

We all know the problem, but no one names what’s hidden in our hearts.
