The Summoning

The dancers danced before the empty throne,
their faces veiled, their hearts heavy as stone,
and as they swayed and leapt upon the floor,
the hours pass; their bodies, growing sore,
can find no rest, nor can they reach an end
before the fabric of the world they rend
and call unto that chair their demon god;
then they may stop their dance and give him laud.
