Short: Peeking Through the Mists

When part the curling mists about the gorge
and through the tangled web of trees you spy
the rapids white, the pool all deep and dark,
there's whispered in the wind a strange remark,
but ere you know what has been said, a cry—
your thought is gone; your path you cannot forge.
