Fear Remains

And fear remains when hatred fails
as like the earth under the tide.
When it recedes with foamy trails
the swell reveals what it did hide.
What slimy things lie on that sand,
the formless jelly of the deep,
all dead and dying on the land
now that the sun they're forced to meet.
And fear remains when hate subsides
for hate's a mask that quickly dies
and in that swell ill life resides
that cannot face perceptive eyes.
