The Harrowing

“I don’t understand. You could have fed the world. No more hunger. No more need for war or aggression. You, the greatest of us all, the most gifted! You could have amazed the world, performed feats no mortal ever dared to dream. I would have made you king. I would have given you all that was mine, the whole world, if you would have just taken it, if you’d have just bowed down to me. What have you done? You’ve ruined everything—turned the whole world upside down. I had to kill you; you gave me no other choice. But you’ve ruined it. You killed death. You’ve emptied Hell! How! How dare you! The world will never be the same again! It’s not fair!”
