You kind of wanted it to be bigger, like something from the movies. I wasn’t particular; I would have been happy with either Mars Attacks! or Close Encounters of the Third Kind. That’s the sort of alien crap I can understand, that I was expecting. I don’t understand this. They’re just there. I mean, I watched them; I saw them slowly descend like deflating balloons and just . . . do nothing. That’s the part I don’t get.
Are there things alive in those ships? Are they like cosmic turtles and just moving in slow motion? Within the next hundred years they’ll take their first step on our planet? Maybe these are unmanned—unaliened?—probes? I don’t know, and I’m not okay with that.
The shadow of those ships passes along the hills in the afternoon, and it troubles me.
