There is a humorous element to pride, that we often feel prideful of just how very humble we really are. It is a sort of catch-22, that is, pride puts you in a situation where you either think of yourself very well or very poorly. Either way, pride has a terrible quality of getting you to think about yourself, to focus on yourself.
Speaking as a prideful person, I know that pride motivates me to act humbly, so that I can take pride in being humble. It’s a downward spiral.
The solution, of course, it to turn one’s focus outward.
