“You lied,” I said.
The old man in the suit said nothing.
“This whole time, you’ve been lying. You covered it all up, didn’t you?”
The suit got out of his chair and walked over toward the window. Zip went the blind string. We both gazed out at the monstrous thing frozen in the giant wall of ice. It was hard to tell what it was. It was just a shadow, a shadow the size of a mountain. I had seen the computer models. They had used sonar or something to try to get a better idea of the shape. Mentally, I was trying to map that model onto the dark thing frozen before us.
“Can you blame me?” he finally answered.
