Poem: Halloween Comes Tiptoeing

As Halloween comes tiptoeing our way,
and all the spooks crawl out their crypts to play;
as all the monsters come in for a shock,
the line goes out the door around the block;
as all the ghosts and ghouls begin to chat,
and jabber on and on 'bout this or that;
as coffins open up, their hinges creak,
and out their graves the vampires now peak;
as witches mumble over bubbling pots,
and whisper secret truths and hidden thoughts;
as werewolves tear their shirts with frightful howls,
and fill the sacred night with viscous growls;
as skeletons twirl in their deathly dance,
and all the poets' eyes slowly entrance;
we sit and laugh and watch some scary flicks
and offer treats to stave off silly tricks.
