Seeing as I have a theological degree, I figure I should now and again provide helpful definitions of some of the more intricate theological terms we use in the biz:
Syncretism:—
Verb: The act of comparing two very different things and squinting so hard that you close your eyes and exclaim, “By Jove”—if Jove is Jove and not a couple of other guys named Jove—”I see the similarity: nothing!”
Verb: The act of vivisecting all distinct parts from diverse religions resulting in a sort bloody, indistinct pulp.
Noun (Abstract): The easily understood and clearly defined belief that nothing is distinct; not to mean that some things are distinct, however, for even in being distinct they are indistinct because nothing being distinct means more so its opposite premise, that everything is indistinct and therefore indistinguishable from nothing, which is distinct.
Noun (Abstract): A general instinct that Christianity is too terrible to contemplate and must be taken down a peg.
Noun (Abstract): An accusation used among Christians when some heretic visits a different church other than the one he grew up in.
