Short: So Far Away

I hear the gentle roar of the ocean calling me from across the shore. I see the inviting waves rising from the blue. No time! No time! I have no time to be. O wonderful and open sea, I see and hear, but I cannot return. The ocean’s dark; the sky is bright; the horizon’s there between. No other song is in my ear except this song you sing, and I, you know that I will always come to you again. The ocean’s wide, the ocean’s blue; and far away, I still hear you. Let the waves hit the shore again. I will not see. But let them strike forevermore, and I will come again. The sea is singing still within my heart. I long again to smell her fishy breath as lovers love what is unlovable. I want to sit within her sands, and rest under the sun. I want, perhaps, I want this too, to sail away. I want to sit and watch her storms. I want to play as she is calm. I want again to see the sea, but I’m so far away.
