Drabble: Stranger

I thought I’d know your voice, or maybe see you wink—but no! I am a stranger here. For I myself, I am a stranger in a foreign land. Stranger as the days go by—stranger even to myself. I do not even know my face. I gazed within a muddy pool, but who was it I saw? Within the cliffs I shouted loud—the echo was so strange.

It’s not my face—it’s not my tongue—it all is strange to me.

I came out here to seek you out, but now I’ve lost myself as well as you.
