Poem: Twilit Noon

Ever darkening sun, aged star,
how long have you burned?
Do you remember our moon,
and how bright you made her shine?
How dark our skies have been.
This rocket ship's the last to go,
and I'm the last to see
this fading twilight of your noon
—all shadows, long and thin.

Tonight I leave the earth,
and you'll be one dim star,
a cold light burning in the dark,
which human eyes shall never know again.

Goodnight sweet sun.
