The light has come into the world . . .
In chapter three of the gospel according to John, Nicodemus comes to Jesus by night, and Jesus tells him, “For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light.”
Nicodemus seems to skirt the line. He is seemingly not an open follower of Jesus, but is this a denial of Jesus? He comes to Jesus, Jesus is the light, but he comes in the darkness of night.
Nicodemus, along with a fellow “secret” disciple named Joseph, took on the great honor of preparing Jesus’ body for burial. At that moment, it seems these two “secret” disciples came out into the light to minister to the light which had died.
We don’t know the state of Nicodemus’ soul, we don’t know how he answered his fellow pharisees when they threatened, “Are you from Galilee too?” but we do see that he sought the light even if he sought it in darkness.
