2020: Pentecost

Happy Pentecost Sunday.

At Pentecost, we remember, among other things, the formation of the Church. The Spirit of God filled His people, and they were able to preach the Gospel to everyone in his own language. Many believed, were baptized, and together (as some tell it) they formed the first hippie commune.

The ability to communicate the Word of God is a gift given, not something to be grasped. As we Christians are to be fishers of men, it might behoove us to remember that those fishermen to whom the Messiah spoke caught nothing on their own—it was the work of Christ.

Let us then wait for the Spirit to come, and be ready to obey as Simon did:

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.”

Luke 5:5
