Poem: My “Liberal” Friend

Am I a broken toy to be ignored?
Are you a priest, or king, or judge
to moralize, send me
to Coventry?
Backs turned,
silent.
I say hello,
but you’re no man.
Pretend that I’m not there;
lie to yourself. I’ll speak the truth
and think forbidden thoughts you will not dare.

I’ll burn the sacred calves and draw prophets;
I’ll question every law of man.
I’ll say יהוה, but you,
what will you do
without
a voice?
Cannot you speak?
Argue and be a man.
And where is your civility?
You’ll find the truth is rather hard to ban.
