Poem: Winter Fades

Winter did pass as years before,
but never did it cease to roar.
Those dreadful winds still haunt my dreams,
and haunting, howling, winter screams.

Forever they shall be with me,
those white vistas I still can see:
the snow stretched over all this land,
and stretching, reached its icy hand.

I’m in winter forevermore
—thus never shall my spirit soar
—never shall my cold soul take flight
after I suffered winter’s bite.

I’m cold though heaven’s sun is high;
my teeth chatter; I’m soon to die.
A flower grows as spring invades,
so ice, so snow, all winter fades.
