“I knew you,” said the abomination, its malformed mouth slowly forming the human words. It reached out its prosthetic arm, but then, as its armored appendage drew closer, it stopped. Its still human eyes moved back and forth, comparing the familiar pink flesh of the stranger to its plastic white shell. The man lowered his gun.
“Yes,” was all the mercenary managed.
“Friend?” said the abomination.
Looking away, the mercenary mumbled, “I need to,” then stopped himself. Looking into his brother’s face, he declared, “Open your access panel.”
It was a strange request, but some part of him remembered this face, some part of him still knew. Warnings flashed in the abomination’s display as he forced a system shutdown. Slowly, the all clear, soft green light shone. With a click his armor unlocked, and he exposed his internal workings to the mercenary.
And the mercenary’s mercy fired three shots into the abomination’s heart.
