Nightmares

A Monday is a Monday is a Monday, and this one hits hard. I invite you to read my short offering.

“What’s happening to me?” he said trembling.

“You’re forgetting.”

“Forgetting?”

He sighed, and held the boy’s hand. “In a few moments,” he told him, “you’re not going to remember any of this. It will all have been,” the man looked around, searching for, “a nightmare. It’s fading now. It will all be gone.”

“But it happened?”

“Yes, it happened.”

He awoke in his bed, his blue pajamas sticking to him in a cold sweat. Clutching his covers, he pushed his head back into his pillows, mumbling as he fell asleep, “Just a nightmare. A nightmare. Nightmare. Mare.”

And so all the young prince knew fell away from him, and the demons were locked into his head.
