Poem Fragment: Eternal Night

Strange it is to say goodbye
to one whose love brought me so high.
Odd to see no life in you
when ‘twas our life would see me through.
Break the earth with spade in hand,
and see what lies beneath the land.
Dig a grave as deep as hell,
and from the hole the flames will swell.
Dark and black and cloudy skies
over us reigns at the smoke-rise.
Shade now smothers all the light,
and casts us in eternal night.
