It seems to be a major theme in movies, a problem culture wrestles with, the integration of the self with the legacy from a father. And whether the conclusion is that Asgard must be destroyed for the sins of the past, or kept alive in a giant space ark, whether we should destroy this legacy or preserve it, it seems the process demands the sacrifice of ourselves, be it Thor’s eye, or more classically, Luke’s surrender to Darth Vader.
Interwoven throughout all forms of storytelling, this theme goes beyond the silver screen, diving deeply into the mystery of myth and legend. Sometimes this is played out in reality, as in David Wood’s testimony.
